To say it’s been a strange weather year would be an understatement, we had record amounts of rain over the winter, and hardly a drop since. With very high temperatures throughout the summer, sometimes hitting the mid 40’s centigrade, or in old money over 100 farenheight. Consequently the fishing has been difficult for a lot of those weeks. Of course there’s also been some exceptional weeks, whatever the weather the fish still have to eat.
It was just a question of being in the right place at the right time. Kevin Oliver’s group were one of those, who fished the lake in late August, just after the last of the very hot weather. They finished with a new lake record of 93 fish for their week, they also held the previous record of 69 fish for a week. When they arrived I said, ‘You won’t beat your record.’ ‘We will,’ they replied. I was wrong, they were right.
Makes you wonder how important confidence is in fishing? We’re fully booked for next year but we’re now taking bookings for 2020.
